Kathleen graduated from Chapman University in 2017 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Minor in Law, Justice, and Social Control. Post-graduation she began working as a paralegal and office manager at a criminal defense firm in Orange County, California where she gained knowledge and experience with the intricacies of the criminal justice system. In January of 2020, she made the move to Charlotte and in September joined the team at Van Kampen Law as an intake specialist.
Kathleen was born and raised in a small town in Missouri where she developed a passion for helping others. She often spends her time outside of work researching methods to build and maintain a strong community and actively works to implement what she’s learned in her daily life. When she’s not doing research or reading, she enjoys drinking coffee, running, and cross-stitching.
Nikki Kawalec is the Office Manager/Senior Litigation Paralegal at Van Kampen Law. She joined Van Kampen Law after relocating from Baltimore, Maryland where she was the paralegal at Goldberg & Banks, P.C. for over 16 years handling complex, commercial construction litigation cases. During her time at Goldberg & Banks, Nikki was able to hone her skills and excel in case organization and management, client relations, and hands-on trial and appellate experience.
Prior to becoming a paralegal, Nikki graduated from Lynchburg College (now known as the University of Lynchburg) with a degree in History and minors in Philosophy and Political Science. She credits the skills of research, writing, and analytical thinking she gained there that allowed her to transition into a successful career in litigation support.
When Nikki isn’t at the law firm, she dedicates her time to volunteering for her national sorority, Alpha Sigma Alpha, The Alpha Sigma Alpha Foundation, and her alma mater. She also enjoys cozying up with a good book, exploring all Charlotte has to offer with her husband, Matt or enjoying a quiet night in with the latest Netflix release.
